The Cross Academy Early Learning Centre is a family business founded by Mr Frank Mapfumo and Mrs Onekai Mapfumo in 2020. They are the 2 directors who see to the day-to-day running of the institution. Mr and Mrs Mapfumo were motivated by their journey as educators and the need to provide the much needed private and Christian school in a new location.

Founder's Message
Our children the childhood they deserve and make our children confident in themselves and the world around them.
Frank Mapfumo is the Chief Executive Officer of The Cross Academy Early Learning Centre who is serving as both CEO and Principal of the school. He holds a BCom Business Management with Finance Honour’s Degree (2004) from Midlands State University, and he has been in Entrepreneurship, management and leadership positions from 1999 when he founded Harvest College in Zvishavane, Midlands province and worked as a teacher at Kyle College (2004-2005) in Masvingo province after completing his studies. In 2006 he moved to South Africa, Giyani and where he served as a teacher, Head of Department and Principal in many schools in and around Giyani: Nkwangulatilo Education Centre (Educator and Principal: 2006-2009), Manonyaneng High School (Educator: September 2009-2012), Rivoningo Education Centre (Principal: 2013-2014), Nkwangulatilo Education Centre (Curriculum Head: 2015) and Nyukani Education Centre (Academic Head and Deputy Pricipal: 2016-2019). After retrenchment at Nyukani Education Centre and the closure of all schools in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Frank started with the construction of The Cross Academy Education Centre premises and managed to open the school on the 15th February 2021. Frank received many awards as a Grade 12 educator in Man’ombe, Mamaila and Klein Letaba circuits. His spare time is directed towards farming.

Onekai Mapfumo serves as both Chief Financial Officer and administrator at The Cross Academy Early Learning Centre. She holds a BA Degree (2006) and a BA 4th year Honor’s Degree (2011) from Great Zimbabwe University, and she has had an illustrative career as an educator. Onekai had been familiar with working as an Estate manager and Maintenance Inspector until 2002. She then familiarized with teaching as she started as a temporary educator in Mashonaland East Province, Zimbabwe at Chimukoko Secondary School (2003) and Muzezuru Secondary School (2003, 2004 and 2005). After completing BA, she moved to South Africa, Limpopo province and served as an English language, Social Sciences and Life Orientation educator and Head of Department at the following schools in Giyani: Muhluri Combined School (2009-2010), Rivoningo Education Centre (2013-2014), Nkwangulatilo Education Centre (2015) and Nyukani Education Centre (2017-2021). She then retired to join The Cross Academy Education Centre on a full-time basis. Onekai’s enterepreneurship skills were tested and proven in 2009, 2012 and 2016. She had a hair salon in town (2009) and then established a brand Focrig, a non-registered company, as the director and sinamay hats designer for weddings and funerals as well as tailoring. The company supplied the hats in Limpopo province and Harare (Zimbabwe) until Nyukani Education Centre had to plead with her and she returned to the teaching fraternity. Onekai received many awards as a Grade 12 educator in Man’ombe and Klein Letaba circuits.

Vunwe Simango has progressed a lot. I enrolled her at The Cross Academy 2025. She can now speak English with confidence and take corrections very well. She can write her name, numbers, draw, and identify many colours at 4 years. I am happy with her progress. Thank you TCA! 👏🏽👏🏽

The school yard is very neat and safe for my daughter and the whole team work as one family. From the Office of the Directors Mr and Mrs Mapfumo F to the entire staff, including general workers, they are all kind and ever smiling.

My daughter Nsimeko Delight Ndlovu started attending at The Cross Academy in 2021, at the age of 2 and now 2025, at the age of 6, she is still in good care of her amazing and skillful educators who are dedicated to making her dream come true. I love the culture and the manner in which my daughter has been developed through writing, reading, calculating and analyzing. The Cross Academy promotes different sporting codes as well as Coding and Robotics. The Cross Academy is one of the best schools in teaching and learning. Thank you TCA!

Ever since my son started attending school at TCA-ELC I've noticed how brilliant and dedicated he is with his school work. Everyday, when he comes back from school, he starts by doing his homework with enthusiasm and understanding. I can just help him here and there because he would have mastered the rest. He passes with distinctions to show that he has the knowledge that enables him to obtain the high positions. I am forever grateful to his teache Mr Simba and Mundondzisi Mihloti. I do not regret our decision, as parents, of taking him to TCA because, there, we have seen the value of my money. We really appreciate and believe that our family's future security is guaranteed. The Cross Academy is an exceptional school that has assisted my children in their academics and also introduced them to Coding and Robotics. The educators from the school are doing an excellent job in ensuring that my children are active participants in the program therefore giving them a glimpse into the fast changing world we are currently existing in. I would like to thank the management and the educators for their dedication and commitment into ensuring that our children are not left behind in this fast changing world, it means a lot to us as parents.
